Service to Alessandria

Alessandria is central to the provinces of Northern Italy and the Piermont Region, equi-distance between Milan and the Port of Genoa about 50 miles to each city. It offers great connections beautifully positioned for a plethora of destinations whilst being of interest itself in an increasingly popular Area of Italy.
This destinationhas taken over from Bologna, with The Italian rail authorities deciding to completely rebuild Bologna station just for High Speed Trains closing motorail and freight facilities all of which transfer to the established rail centre of Alessandria.
This capital city of the Province of Alessandria, with history dating back to 10th century, is often referred to as the ‘Gateway to Italy’, like a hub with it's spokes spreading out to, The Italian Lakes of Como, Garda and Maggiore - about 100 miles away and afar. The Dolomites popular with motorcyclists in Summer, is less than 150 miles. Bologna is about 148 miles and that is to the heart of Tuscany.Verona less at 138 miles and Venice just over 200 miles-all with fast Motorway connections. The holiday coastline of Ligurian Riviera is easily reachable now from this terminus-just over an hour away.
Italian expert, Ian Glass of Countrylanetours recommends the road from Alessandria down to Portofino as being “extremely pretty” and goes on to say the 140 mile drive to Monaco and even as far as Nice also makes for a very enjoyable coastal run. Beloved of Michael Winner the always impressive Portofino is just 74 miles.its small harbour framed by pastel coloured houses-why not take lunch,al fresco, at ‘Hotel Splendido’ and try their pesto( basil,cheese,garlic oil and pine nuts )? Beach lovers can sample the delights of closeby Alassio and San Remo
Nearby Genoa, full of palaces, churches and handsome piazzas, is just 50 miles away.The great maritime town is the home port of Moby lines ferries with regular and good quality services to ports along the Western coast of Italy as well as the Sardinia, Sicily, Corsica, Malta and Elba.
Many will find Alessandria an excellent starting off point from which you can plan tours all over Italy perhaps taking our Livorno train home having stretched far into Southern Italy and even beyond.
